Lagos PDP Says It Has Not Endorsed Jimi Agabje As Its Guber Candidate
Latest Headlines, News Saturday, August 16th, 2014The Lagos State Chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied speculation that it has endorsed an incoming stalwart, Mr. Jimi Agabje as its Governorship flag bearer in 2015 general elections.
Its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, while making the clarification on Friday admitted that Agabje was a good ‘brand’, but affirmed that the party was yet to conduct its primary, therefore did not have a governorship candidate yet.
Gani indicated that the state’s PDP when it the time comes, would conduct its primary and allow a level playing ground for all aspirants.
Another governorship aspirant under the platform of PDP in the state, Adegbola Dominic, has also debunked rumour of endorsing an aspirant as its governorship candidate.
Adegbola admitted that the PDP was truly keen in having a salable candidate, the trait which he observed present in Agbaje, yet insisted that he would also go through the same process like every other aspirant.
“If Jimi Agbaje wants to join the party, he is free to do so. If he wants to contest, he has a right like anybody else.
“He will go through the process of primary and test his popularity amongst the party members. Jimi Agbaje is an individual like every other party member, so he is free to join or run for any office…” Adegbola emphasized.
Agbaje, a successful Pharmacist and politician is been highly rumored to defect from his present Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA) to PDP and expectedly run for governorship seat on its (PDP) platform.
He and about 11 others in 2007 left the defunct Action Congress (AC) due to what they described as imposition of candidate on them and contested similar position under DPA in the years’s governorship election.
The incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola won the poll and he emerged third, trailing his new party which won second position.
Agbaje had since gone under in the last seven years until recently when his interest in Alausa’s seat resurfaced.
