Kidnappers free Abia Commissioner’s Wife

Wife of the Abia state Commissioner for Sports, Evangelist Esther Chigbu, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on the 8th of October, 2013 and eve of her husband’s swearing in by Gov. Theodore Orji, was on monday freed by her abductors.
A close source to the police in the area disclosed to our correspondent that the commissioner’s wife was abandoned near a village in Obingwa local Government council of the state where she contacted her husband who mobilized to pick her up.
African Examiner, gathered that the abductors had demanded a ransom of N30million naira though, it was not confirmed if a ransom was actually paid to affect her release.
Mrs. Chibgu, our correspondent gathered was said to be driving a Murano SUV Jeep around 8pm to a hair dressing salon located at Umuokahia community, when the gunmen kidnapped her barely a night before her husband, Chief David Chigbu’s swearing in as Commissioner.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the unholy act may have been masterminded by political detractors of her husband.
Abia state Police public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna,, could not be reached for comments as at the time of filling this report as his mobile phone was switched off.
But a senior police officer who do not want his name in the print confirmed her release unhurt.
