President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the senate to extend the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states for additional 6 months.
The President argued that the extension is necessary due to continued threats of Boko Haram insurgency in the affected states.
Jonathan’s request was contained in a letter sent to the Senate and was read on the floor of the senate Tuesday morning by the Presiding Deputy senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
The senate is expected to carry out deliberation on the president’s request as soon as possible.
