Jim Nwobodo, Children At War Over Burial Site For Late Son
Latest Headlines, News From The State Friday, December 5th, 2014The final burial rites and internment of late Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobodo (jnr), failed to hold friday, December 5, 2014, as earlier scheduled, following the father’s refusal that the corpse be buried in his country home compound as requested by the surviving sons.
For several hours, dignitaries from all walks of life were waiting for the arrival of the casket bearing the remains of the late medical Doctor, and former Commissioner for Science and Technology, in Enugu state, but to no avail.
Senator Nwobodo, had insisted that the corpse be buried in the deceased compound and not his.
Dignitaries, political associates and friends of senator Nwobodo, who visited his country home, Amechi Awkunanaw, for the burial left disappointed after witnessing the show of shame and drama.
However, the situation became more dramatic when the two younger brothers to the deceased seized and hid the corpse of Nwobodo jnr, as a result of their father’s insistence that the corpse will not be buried within his own compound.
As at the time of filing this report Friday evening, the duo of Chukwudi Nwobodo and Mr Uso Nwobodo, both younger brothers to late Ifeanyi Nwobodo, and their father were still at daggers drawn over where to bury the corpse .
African Examiner check revealed that senator Nwobodo, had earlier made arrangements for his late son to be buried in his own newly erected bungalow outside he (the father,s) compound
But the two sons, who are direct younger ones to the deceased, turned down the arrangement by their father, saying it would mean that he has denied them the right to inherit his family house, in preference to their step brothers, from the 2nd wife Patricia Nwobodo.
The late Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobodo , Chukwudi and Uso Nwobodo were born by Jim Nwobodo’s first but divorced wife, Mrs Mukosolu Nwobodo.
Our Correspondent gathered that concerned elders of Amechi Awkunanaw community, had before Friday 5th, December, pleaded with senator Nwobodo to resolve the issue amicably with his two sons, so that the family won’t wash their dirty linings in public.
But the pleas according to one of the elders, fell on deaf ears on either parties.
Senator Nwobodo, had gone ahead with preparations to bury and entertain mourners and other visitors, at the newly built bungalow supposedly to be owned by the late eldest son.
African Examiner further gathered that while their father was busy arranging things at the bungalow, the two younger brothers to late Nwobodo jnr hurriedly went to the mortuary and evacuated his corpse to an unknown destination.
They refused to disclose where they hid the corpse amidst pleas from clergymen led by Rt Rev Dr Emmanuel Chukwuma, the Archbishop of Enugu ecclesiastical province, Anglican communion.
Our correspondent also learnt that the Deputy senate President, chief Ike Ekweremadu, senator Gilbert Nnaji, Dr Nnia Nwodo, ex governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi and many other dignitaries who arrived earlier for the final funeral made several attempts to broker peace between Jim Nwobodo and his sons, but to no avail.
