Incessant Killings In Nigeria Has Made It Most Terrorized Nation Says Catholic Bishops

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The week- long  Catholic  Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) holding in Enugu has ended  with a declaration that alarming  deaths in the hands of killer herdsmen, kidnappers, among others  have made Nigeria one of the most terrorized  countries in the world.

They  noted   that except for civil war, Nigeria has never witnessed the kind of murderous bloodletting currently being witnessed in the country.

The Clerics  stated   this  in a communiqué  they  issued at the end of their second plenary session held at Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.

According to the  communiqué which was signed by president of CBCN, Most Rev. Augustine Akubueze of Benin Diocese  and it’s secretary, Most Rev. Camillus Umoh , pointed out that life has never been so cheap, nor Nigeria ever been at the stage we are now.

The bishops further stressed  that deaths in the hand of kidnappers, killer herdsmen, bandits, terrorists, among others have made Nigeria one of the most terrorized countries in the world.

Though the bishops recognized the efforts being made by government to fight insecurity in the land, they however stressed that government needed to show more strategic commitment and sincerity in the fight and take full responsibility for the present culture of violence and impunity in the country.

They  stated  that  the government  must be balanced and seen to be so in its response to the challenges of insecurity in every segment of the  citizenry.

In the same vein, “we call on all citizens to be law abiding, vigilant, live by some moral principles and above all ,  obey the commandments of God.

“We will continue to plead with all to shun violence and criminality.
