Imo To Get Nollywood City Soon
Entertainment News, Latest Headlines Tuesday, September 1st, 2015By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Owerri – The Owerri, Imo state based Micro Small, Medium Enterprises (MSME) Business School, Okuku, has concluded arrangement for the establishment of a Nollywood City.
When completed, the city according to the school, would have a resemblance of America’s famous Hollywood town.
The project is also designed for accelerated development of performing arts in the Nigeria.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, initiator of the project, Ndukwe O. Ndukwe, said critical in the planned infrastructure development in the area, is the construction of an international film studio, an African village square setting, art gallery, artificial lake as well as fish pond.
He said the above mentioned facilities would go a long way in attracting Tourists and film enthusiasts to the city.
According to him, a small portion of the property, which is known as the Nollywood City and Palm Resort, Owerri, would serve as the permanent site of the MSME Business School.
He said the proposed Nollywood village, located at Okuku in Owerri West Council Area, of the state is a 100,000 square meters expanse of land, with a viable palm plantation.
“We believe it is time to forge a concerted and structured development template.
“As conceived, we plan to commence our academic programmes with the Faculty of Performing Arts, with a variety of disciplines like Theatre, Make-up Artistry, Directing, Cinematography, Dance, Music and the likes, by opening the window for entrepreneurs to key into the Nollywood phenomenon.” he stated.
