Imo Police Storm Abia Baby Factory, Arrest Proprietor, Pregnant Girls
Latest Headlines, News, News From The State Tuesday, June 30th, 2015By Ignatius Okpara – Policemen attached to the Imo state command have uncovered a baby factory at Mbutu, in Isiala Ngwa South Council Area of Abia State, just as they arrested the proprietor, Chief Emmanuel Eke, and some young pregnant girls.
Among the arrested expectant mothers, is a deaf and dumb girl.
Briefing newsmen in Owerri after the successful operation, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, gave the name of the arrested pregnant deaf and dumb girl as Miss Blessing Nwabeke.
He said: “The pregnant deaf and dumb person, who could not mention her age and address was however, identified as Miss Blessing Nwabeke,”.
The Imo police spokesman, disclosed that other expectant mothers picked up in the baby factory were 23-year-old Miss Nkasiobi Uchenna from Nkwuegwu Umuahia, Miss Oluchi Victor, 25, from Isiala Ngwa, and Miss Ela David, 24, from Isoko in Delta State.
Explaining how the police stumbled on the baby factory and child-trafficking syndicate, Enwerem, said Chief Eke was arrested following a credible tip off.
According to him, “A pregnant 20-year-old Miss Ibuchi Okafor from Ihioma, Orlu local government area of Imo State, disappeared from their family home and after spending some time in an undisclosed place, she returned without the expected baby.
“This development generated a lot of curiosity in the family,”.
He said: “Suspecting that Ibuchi, must have sold her baby, the family reported the matter to the police and on interrogation, the girl told her interrogators that she was successfully delivered of a baby boy at the home of Chief Eke, who later sold the baby to an unknown buyer for N500,000.
