Imo Governor, Uzodinma Sacks Labour Commissioner Over NLC Strike
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria Saturday, March 11th, 2023(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor, Hope Uzodimma, of Imo state on Saturday, sacked his Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Mr. Ford Ozumba.
It was gathered that the development may not be unconnected with the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Industrial Action that has paralyzed government and economic activities in the state.
The sack was contained in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, who said it takes immediate effect.
According to the release, made available to Newsmen in Owerri, the Governor has directed Ozumba to hand over all necessary documents to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity immediately.
However, no reason was given for the sack but Sources close to the state government who craved anonymity said it has to do with the ongoing impasse between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Joe Ajaero and the Imo State Government.
It was also gathered that Ozumba might have been a casualty of the election by the workers which was allegedly truncated by the agents of the state government.
The source said the sacked Commissioner was poised for a free and fair election by the union which didn’t go down well with some powerful forces at the government house
