Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has reduced ministries in the state from 22 to13.
A statement issued in Owerri, the state capital on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary CPS, Sam Onwuemeodo, explained that the reduction followed the disturbing economic situation in the Nigeria which had compelled the federal and state governments to adopt certain measures.
According to the Governor, the reduction was also to make the ministries effective and more productive.
The statement added that the decision was taken at a joint meeting of senior government officials, permanent secretaries and the governor.
“Those in attendance thoroughly reviewed the functions of all the ministries and the challenging situation in the country and the states at the moment, and saw the need to restructure the ministries to reflect the general circumstances in the country and make them responsive and result-oriented.
“The permanent secretaries in the affected ministries and the staff would be moved to other ministries
The governor assured that the measure would not in any way lead to loss of jobs.
He said with the 13 ministries left to function, there would be a blue-print on how to make them solid and viable to achieve the desired results.
