Against the backdrop of recent threat by some Northern Elders to drag immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika to the International Criminal Court, ICC, Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Chukwuma has warned against such act, saying if not shelved, may lead to tribal war in Nigeria.
African Examiner reports that there are moves by a body under the auspices of Northern Elders Forum to drag the just retired former Army Chief to the ICC over his alleged role in the army operations at the North-East Nigeria.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Monday, Bishop Chukwuma, who is also chairman, of South-East chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, vowed that the people of the zone would totally resist any such move by the Northerners.
The outspoken Delta state born Anglican cleric however, tongue lashed the Northern Elders for refusing to speak out when Igbos were being slaughtered on daily basis in the area.
His words “Northern elders should be warned; otherwise, they are calling for another tribal war; I want to tell them that they should drop the idea of charging Ihejirika to ICC because we, the Igbos will resist it. He vowed.
