”I didn’t Intend To Keep Injured Echiejile” Keshi
Latest Headlines, News, Sports News Wednesday, June 11th, 2014Super Eagles coach Stepehen Keshi has dismissed claims he insisted on keeping injured Elderson Echiejile despite the Monaco defender’s injury.
Keshi admitted it was painful for him to lose Echiejile, but noted that he did not intend to keep the player at any time.
“I am pained that Echiejile, who is a very key member of the squad will be missing out after putting in so much but there was nothing we could do to hasten the healing process,” Keshi said.
“We have spoken to the medical team and the NFF and we have agreed, so I was a bit shocked when I got a call from some of my friends back home that I insisted on an injured player.
“It’s a fallacy because I never spoke to anyone about Echejile.”
Meanwhile, home based winger, Ejike Uzoenyi, who replaces Echiejile has arrived in Brazil.
The CHAN 2013 Most Valuable Player joined the squad on Wednesday afternoon.
The African Champions will open their campaign against Iran in Curitiba on Monday, June 16.
