House Crisis: Gbajabiamila, Monguno To Be Compensated With Juicy Committees

Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – The leadership crisis rocking the House of Representatives may have finally been laid to rest following the intervention of President Mohammadu Buhari.

The crisis which has divided the All Progressives Congress House members into two factions, started on June 9, 2015, when against the wishes of the party, Yakubu Dogara and Suleiman Lasun emerged speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

But when President Buhari met with all the APC members on Monday night at Aso Villa, African Examiner learnt that the president was able to pacify the Femi Gbajabiamila group to drop their hard line posturing and embrace peace.

A source in the meeting said that the “Dogara formula which excluded the South west and the North east from the other principal officer position, having gotten the Deputy Speaker and Speakership respectively, was adopted.

The source said that it was agreed that a choice and juicy committee leadership should be given to Gbajabiamila as compensation.

Confirming the development last night, a Special Adviser to the speaker, Turaki Hassan said:

“Finally, the disagreement over principal officer positions in the House of Representatives is over.

“APC leadership has adopted the zoning formula proposed by Speaker Yakubu Dogara: Alhassan Ado Doguwa Leader, Pally Eriase Chief Whip, Umar Buba Jibrin Deputy Leader, Chike Okafor Deputy Chief Whip. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Mohammed Tahir Monguno to be compensated with Committees.

“This is victory for democracy, equity, fairness and justice. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
