Hold Obiano Responsible For Anambra Killings – Group
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Saturday, October 2nd, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A group of Anambra Women for Peace has slammed the state governor Chief Willie Obiano for spiraling insecurity in the state, saying the governor’s ineptitude has turned the state into the epicenter of insecurity in southern Nigeria.
The group asked security agencies to investigate the complicity of the governor in the current wave of killings ravaging the state.
Speaking with reporters in Abuja, the group’s coordinator, Mrs. Ijeoma Oforah said it was unthinkable that Anambra State, which prides itself as “Home for All” could so suddenly be turned into a “killing field”
She said, “We are shocked and horrified at the speed with which Anambra State, arguably home of the most prosperous people in Nigeria, has been turned into a “killing field no thanks to the ineptitude of Governor Willie Obiano”.
She continued, “Obiano.has just about five months left to the end of a lack-lustre eight-year tenure which can at best be described year of the locusts. He wants to bequeath a legacy of tears, sorrows, tears and blood. What is more, he’s looking for scape goats when he’s the culprit.
“Obiano inherited one of the most peaceful states with a very robust economy. Sadly, we have seen the steady decay of Infrastructure. As if that isn’t bad enough, he has by conspiratorial silence allowed the state be overrun by criminal gangs killing and destroying at will.”
The group lameted that Governor Obiano deliberately refused to learn from the strategies deployed by Governor Nyesom Wike and his colleagues in the Southeast when unknown gunmen attempted to overrun their states.
“When unknown gunmen killed security operatives in Rivers State, Governor Wike responded, not only by ordering a crackdown in parts of his state, but also visited families of the dead and injured officers and supported them with cash gifts.
“Granted, no money can bring back the dead, but financial support to families of the dead helps boost the morale of those tasked to hunt down the killer- gunmen, as the security agents are confident that in the event of death, their loved ones would not suffer,” she said.
“Governor Obiano’s failure to emulate his colleagues in other states, and even compensate persons whose property were destroyed in the wake of the sit-at-home order, largely contributed to law-abiding citizens’ loss of confidence in government,” Oforah declared.
