Featured, Latest Headlines, News From The State, Nigeria 2015 Election Saturday, February 21st, 2015FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – Dozens of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were on Friday evening found in a refuse dumpster inside the Enugu East local government secretariat at Nkwo Nike.
African Examiner reports that the council area is situated, in a suburb of Enugu metropolis.
The items were first seen by some concerned Nigerians who thereafter, alerted other members of the public.
Our Correspondent who visited the council area, saw the heaps of the essential electoral material, inside the refuse dumpster provided by the Enugu state waste management Authority,(ESWAMA) for evacuation of refuse inside the local government secretariat.
Some people who came to catch a glimpse of the items, alleged that something must be fishy, just as they wondered why such a sensitive electoral material should litter a space meant for refuse dumping in the council area.
On a closer look and examination of the PVCs, our Correspondent observed that the cards did not share same security features with the ones currently being distributed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
When contacted, the Enugu state police public Relations officer PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, said the police cannot move in unless on the invitation of INEC.
Reacting to the development when contacted, Enugu State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Chukwuemeka Onukaogu, said he was away in Aba, Abia State, but would send his staff to the place for investigation.
