Following the controversy that surrounds his impair health, the Taraba State House of Assembly has constituted a medical fact finding panel to confirm the state of health of the state Governor, Danbaba Suntai.
In a statement issued Saturday by the Speaker, Josiah Kente, the finding team is to be lead by Professor Bala Shehu as chairman. Members included Dr. Inusa Samaila, Professor Peter Alabi, Dr. Shehu Sule and Suntai’s Personal Physician, Dr. Ahmed Kara.
“Consequent upon the receipt of the resolution of the Taraba State Executive Council meeting on September 10 2014, evoking the provision of Section 189 (1) b and 189 (4) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which requested me to appoint a medical panel to verify the health condition of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Pharm. Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, I hereby constitute the medical panel,” the Speaker stated in the statement.
Suntai who returned to Nigeria over a year ago, after months of stay abroad for treatment, due to air crash, had to return on account of ill health and incompetence to attend to demands of his office. He made another return from United Kingdom late last month with non satisfactory health.
The sick Governor’s second return has been attributed to loss of confidence in his Deputy, Alhaji Garba Umar. This was confirmed by Suntai Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sylvanus Yakubu. He reportedly revealed his boss was not the only victim of Umar’s over bearing tendency.
Besides the loyalty, the embattled Governor is said to rush back to the country for him to be involved in the scheme of things, especially as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for its primaries.
