Doctor Who Treated Nigeria First Ebola’s Victim Contracted Deadly Virus- Health Minister
African News, Breaking News, Featured, Latest Headlines Monday, August 4th, 2014Latest report has it that one of the Physicians who attended about two weeks ago to the first Ebola causality in Lagos, South Western Nigeria, Patrick Sawyer has contracted the deadly virus.
Confirming the case, the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said: “This new case is one of the doctors who attended to the Liberian Ebola patient who died”.
He stated with this, the second Ebola case has been confirmed in the country.
The first, Sawyer, a Liberian and Consultant with the Liberian Ministry of Finance collapsed last two weeks ago at the airport and was rushed to the hospital after which he was diagnosed to have been infected with the virus.
Sawyer later died barely a week after he was quarantined and treated in a private hospital in Lagos. The Minister has again directed that the dead body of Ebola victims should not be allowed entry to the country.
The Liberian authorities has equally directed the corpse of Ebola victims be cremated to avoid possible spread and further outbreak.
