Handicap Docked over N1.7M Scam

A 40- year old Handicap Kenneth Okpe, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N1.7million by false pretence.

The defendant, who was on Monday docked before Magistrate Eniola Fabamwo, is facing a two count charge, bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The police prosecutor, ASP Barth Nwaokoye, said that the defendant, committed the alleged offence on October 3, 2013 at Iba, in Ojo area of the state.

He said that Okpe fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,740,000, from one Osita Amusiogo, under the pretence of buying him one Toyota Corolla 2007 Model Car, a representation he knew to be false.

According to the prosecutor, the crime committed is contrary to section 312 (1) (a) (3), 278 and punishable under section 285 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.

Earlier when the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Fabamwo, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.  She adjourned the matter to February 19, 2014, for mention.
