Gunmen Abduct Rivers State University Of Education VC


By Ignatius Okpara – Gunmen have Abduct Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers state, Professor (Mrs.) Rosamond Green.

She was said to have been abducted on her way home Friday night in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Registrar of the institution, Adiele Ikem, told newsmen after a management meeting that the staff of the University were worried over the shocking development.

He promised that the management would do its best to ensure that academic work were not affected by the situation.

“We don’t intend to interrupt the programmes of the students so that we don’t create any unhealthy situation” he stated.

According to him, “Management is taking necessary steps to ensure that lectures go on.”.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident.

The State Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature who in his officers were working round the clock to apprehend the hoodlums, disclosed that the Command recently smashed a kidnappers den, armed robbery squads, cult groups and criminal hide outs in different parts of the state.

Bature, hinted that his men recovered assorted dangerous weapons during the raids, saying that the Command was committed to smoke out miscreants from the state.

According to him, “The Rivers State Police Command in its sustained onslaughts on violent criminals in the State has within the week recorded some remarkable achievements.

He said: “On 13/06/2015 at about 10:35 pm along Igbo-Etche road a team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS engaged a gang of suspected armed robbers who were robbing innocent commuters.

“The operation yield in the recovery of two pump action guns, one single barrel gun, fifteen cartridges and a Toyota Camry being the operational vehicle of the hoodlums while two of the unidentified suspected armed robbers got fatally wounded.

“Similarly, on 14/06/2015 at about 03:45 pm around Okija shanty by mile one, Port Harcourt, another team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad daringly raided enclave of suspected hoodlums.

“The operation also yielded in the recovery of three revolver pistols, one pump action gun, 35 rounds of .9mm ammunition, 22 cartridges, three military camouflage and two face masks while three of the unidentified suspected hoodlums got fatally wounded.

“On 15/06/2015 at about 3:45 pm at Abuloma in Port Harcourt, a team of Anti/Cultism Unit on a tip off raided the hideout of cultists and arrested five suspected cultists. Items recovered from them include one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one AK 47 rifle, three magazines and 20 round of assorted live ammunition.

“The Command is ever more determined to smoke out miscreants from their enclaves so as to proactively destroy their evil conceived plan to attack innocent citizens. While members of the public are assured of their safety, the Command will sustain the ongoing robust operations until the criminal elements are flushed out.

“The State will henceforth not be conducive for their activities. The continued support of the patriotic members of the public is solicited in this regard.
