Gun Battle In Owerri as Robbers Gun Down Policeman

Owerri the Imo State capital was thrown into pandemonium on Sunday when a policeman in mufti was gunned down by suspected armed bandits.
African Examiner reports that suspected robbers invaded an Ice-fish Market along Uratta area of the city by Erekwerenwa Street, where they raided one of the coldrooms said to be owned by one Madam White and also rob fish dealers of their money.
An eyewitness, told our correspondent that when the robbers arrived the place, they did not notice the presence of some armed policemen in the market who promptly challenged the invaders.
The intervention of the policemen, according to the eye witness, led to a shoot out between the police and the suspects, a situation that caused the buyers and sellers scampering for safety.
Following the shootout, an unidentified policeman was shot to death. The body of the police officer, it was gathered, has since been removed by the police authorities.
