(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – After the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the date of rerun polls in some States, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has held separate private meetings with Governors Mohammadu Abubakar of Bauchi State and his Adamawa counterpart, Jibrila Bindow.
The States are among those affected and INEC announced the last Saturday poll as being inconclusive.
Other States include: Kano and Plateau. INEC however, suspended the poll in Rivers State due to violence that marred the exercise in many Local Government areas of the South South State.
After their meeting, both Abubakar and Bindow refused to speak with the State House correspondents.
Recalled, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were leading with little margins in Bauchi, Adamawa and Kano States.
However, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong is in the lead, before the poll was declared as inconclusive.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voters’ Education Committee) Mr. Festus Okoye Tuesday evening announced Saturday, March 23, 2019 as the date for supplementary elections in the affected States except Rivers.
Meanwhile, a State High Court in Adamawa has restrained the INEC from conducting the rerun.
However, the Electoral body has replied and insisted on going ahead with its plan.
