A father of two, who hails from Orba community in Udenu Council Area, the same with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State Monday escaped suicide attempt.
AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that the young man whose name was simply given as Toochuchwu, had gone into his one bed room apartment at Akwuke community, in Enugu South local government Area and tied himself with a strong twine rope to the ceiling in an attempt to kill himself, before his young wife walked in and raised alarm.
Following this, neighbours and passers-by rushed into their apartment where they quickly untied, and rushed Tochukwu to the hospital where he was resuscitated.
Our Correspondent further learnt that the attempted suicider, who is a patent medicine dealer, went to his shop on that fateful day in the morning only to come back later to carry out the failed suicide attempt when most tenants had left for work.
It was also gathered that the victim’s wife recently gave birth to a baby boy who fell ill and the wife took him to the hospital same Monday, only for her to come back to find her husband dangling from the ceiling in their room.
Narrating what prompted his attempted suicide to newsmen, Tochukwu, who spent three days in the hospital, said that he was hale and hearty until Sunday February 7, 2016, when they took their child to the Anglican Church for dedication.
It was at the dedication service that a man of God prophesied to him that someone had taken his name to a native doctor in order to kill him and they prayed for him to avert the danger.
According to him, after the child’s dedication church service, he was restless, adding that his strength began to fail him gradually to the extent that when he went to the medicine shop on Monday, he was weak and unconscious until he found himself in the hospital when he regained consciousness.
Toochukwu said that he believed he was under a spell because he had no reason to take his own life when he was full of life and had good plans for future.
His words: “I believe I was under a spell, how can I think of committing suicide when I was even trying to expand my business. I had quarrel with someone who threatened to deal with me in the yard and there is a land issue in the village, so I don’t know where the problem came from but one thing I know is that I was under a spell,” he said.
Before the fateful day, he said that his mother had been having terrible nightmares where a corpse was brought to her and they have since been praying.
Also reacting, the land lady of the compound told newsmen that they are happy that what would have brought bad name to their yard has been averted, adding that if not for the timely intervention of his wife, it would have been a different story.
