Governor Orji Stresses The Need For Airport In Abia
Latest Headlines, News From The State Friday, January 24th, 2014Governor Theodore Orji says the importance of an airport in Abia state cannot be overemphasized.
He stated this at the Government house, Umuahia when he received at the Government house, Umuahia when he received a delegation of the NORINCO Group of China, investors interested in building an airport and seaport for the state.
The governor said that Abia is prepared to build an airport even though it is capital intensive and disclosed that at the moment the state is tidying its papers with the federal government and other agencies involved in the airport project.
Chief Orji said that the next step would be to embark on land clearing.
He maintained that Abia occupies strategic location in the South East and needs to have her own airport as it has resourceful persons and businessmen who travel outside.
The governor said the seaport would be useful to businessmen many of whom use it already to bring in goods though it is not yet dredged.
He urged the investors to bring their expertise to complete the projects.
Earlier, the Nigeria Representative to NORINCO, Dr. Cyril Ude explained that NORINCO international Group is involved in the development of critical infrastructure in parts of the world and is interested in developing an airport and seaport project in the state, adding that the company is financially stable to fund the projects.
Also, the Assistant President, NORINCO Group of China, Mr. Dong Jifeng pointed out that his company has a lot of experience in diverse fields including mining, petrochemical industry etc.
