Governor Obiano Lifts Suspension On 5 Anambra Monarchs
African News, Featured, Latest Headlines, News, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Sunday, January 3rd, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Governor Willie Obiano led government in Anambra state, South- East Nigeria, has lifted the suspension of five traditional rulers it suspended a few months ago.
It would be recalled that the governor had slammed suspension on some Monarchs in the state for visiting president Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja some time last year without obtaining permission from the state government before embarking on the trip.
Amongst the dethroned monarchs were; Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle and Igwe G.B.C. Mbakwe of Abacha, among others.
Those whose suspension were lifted are, Igwe Simon Ikechukwu Chidubem of Umumbo, Igwe A.N. Onwuneme of Ikenga, Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo of Alor, Igwe Chukwuma Bob Vincent Orji of Ezinifite and Igwe S.O. Uche of Ezira.
According to the state government, “The one-year suspension of Igwe Kelly N. Nkeli of Igbariam, Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Peter Uyanwa of Ukwulu continues, subject to future review as may be necessary.”
Announcing the lifting of the suspension weekend, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Greg Obi, said “in the spirit of the new year, the state governor, Willie Obiano, had pardoned the monarchs whose suspensions were held in abeyance
According to him, “the Executive Governor of Anambra State, in a new year act of magnanimity, has decided to lift the suspension of three remaining traditional rulers effective immediately in exercise of the powers bestowed on him under the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law of 2007 as amended.”
