Governor Ajumobi Insults Journalists At APC Secretariat
Featured, Latest Headlines, News From The State Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015By Chuks Ehirim – It was a day of rage for Abuja based journalists who cover the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) as they had a raw deal in the hands of Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajumobi, who, on Tuesday, used derogatory words on them, for asking him to make comment on the outcome of the closed door meeting about eight of the party Governors had with the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun.
As the newsmen approached the governor, wanting to get an elusive scoop from him, Ajumobi feigned ignorance of the media organizations they claimed to be representing, saying he does not recognise any of the local media present at the party office.
The governor who is one of states chief executives currently battling against unpaid workers’ salaries came along other APC governors but descended on the kournalists after an unfruitful meeting with the National Chairman of his party.
When the journalists approach him to comment on the behind closed door meeting with the party leadership, Ajumobi who asked all the journalists present one after the other, the names of their media organisations, therefore shouted on top of his voice that “I don’t know any of these media houses, so I can’t talk.”
Some of the media representatives present at the party Secretariat include Thisday, Telegraph, Vision fm, Leadership, Blueprint, Newsdairy, Lagos Television station, Galaxy TV, The Tide, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Niche on Sunday, among many others.
Ajumobi who spoke in yoruba said: “I know what they want is money, call me one of my aides to find something for them, I don’t have time for any comment.”
The governor’s outburst against the media men, sent shock waves down their spines and they walked away from him in anger.
It was however gathered that some party loyalists at the secretariat, did not feel comfortable seeing the embarrassing manner the governor dealt with the newsmen and may report the face off to the National leadership of the party.
