France Applauds Regional Cooperation Against Terrorism In Nigeria

The government of France has commended the resolve and commitment by the governments of Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad to form an alliance and fight terrorism together in Nigeria.
The French government said it welcomes the commitment made on july 23 in Niamey by the heads of state of the four countries to contribute to a multinational force to combat the terrorist threat in Nigeria, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
This commitment, according to a press statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, is in line with the action plan defined at the Paris Summit for Security in Nigeria on May 17 and the follow-up meeting on June 12 in London aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism while ensuring respect for human rights.
“This decision is a positive step forward in the fight against terrorism”, the statement said.
The statement also condemned the recent attack in Kaduna which resulted in mass casualties.
“We condemn this horrific act and extend our condolences to the victims’ families”, it further stated.
