Fire Razes Federal Ministry of Works Building In Lagos

At least, property worth millions of naira were Tuesday evening destroyed as fire razes the Federal Ministry of Works building at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Nigeria.

It was learnt that the fire began in the 2-storey building around 6:30pm after workers had left the office at the close of work.

The inferno gutted three offices before it was put out by a combine team of the Federal fire service and their state counterpart.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe said the fire resulted as a result of an electricity surge from the Air condition in the office.

“Immediately we received the call, fire trucks were deployed to the scene. The building is divided into two wings. And the fire affected the right wing on the ground floor. The fire started from the R and A office and damaged the property inside. The fire later spread to two other offices.

“It was the prompt effort of the fire service officials that prevented the fire from spreading to other floors in the building,” he said, adding that the fire touched the second floor but did not damage any property.
