Finally, Jonathan Visits Borno, Meets With The Military Chiefs
Featured, Latest Headlines, Nigeria 2015 Election Thursday, January 15th, 2015From Mustapha Abdul Salaam – President Goodluck Jonathan has finally visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, North Eastern Nigeria to campaign not only for the chibok girl
President Jonathan left for Maiduguri after wreaths laying ceremony, to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day in FCT, Abuja.
Jonathan met with the Military Chiefs on security related issues even as he said that “in terms of equipment and logistics, we have already made considerable progress since the insurgency started and we will continue to improve in that regard until your operations are successfully concluded,”
“Terrorism and insurgency have been very traumatic for all of us. I feel particularly disturbed when I hear of our people being displaced within their own country.
“I assure you and other displaced persons that Government is working very hard to ensure that you do not remain in these camps for too long.
“I know that many of your houses have been destroyed. We will assist you financially so that you can rebuild your homes and return to them gradually,” President Jonathan told the displaced persons.”
President’s visit to Borno has become a serious controversial issue since 2014, especially after the April abduction of over 200 Chibok secondary school girls. Some weeks after the abduction, the country was told about the planned President’s visit to Chibok, but it was not to be as the information was denied, despite the presence of his advance team in the state.
