Female Bomber, Soldier Killed In Gombe
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Monday, June 9th, 2014A female suicide bomber, who attempted to bomb a military Artillery Regiment Quarter in Gomber was killed along with a soldier before she could get to her target Sunday.
The woman, according to a source, covered herself in hijab and hid the explosives in a handbag and walked towards the 301 Artillery Regiment Quarter in the state capital city, Gombe town before the bomb exploded prematurely killing her and the soldier who was searching her.
Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday saying that troops mounting a security checkpoint at the entrance to Quarter Guard Barracks in Gombe intercepted a lady suicide bomber while she was attempting to gain entry into the barracks.
The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major-General Chris Olukolade, said the suspected suicide bomber concealed the device under her hijab.
“The lady suicide bomber who had primed herself with improvised explosive devices concealed under her hijab was intercepted when troops acting on an intelligence report indicating that a terrorist group was plotting to attack barracks around Gombe using female suicide bombers,” he said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
