Felabration Of Multiple, Thrilling Flavours

Almost 16 years after the initiative was taken, Felaberation – an annual convergence of music stars, families and lovers of the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo kuti, to celebrate his ingenuity, musical creativity, originality and dexterity, this year’s edition was held with some peculiarities.
The 2014 Felabration which was the 17th edition of the annual music festival was anchored on one of the late Afro beat legend common lexicons and life philosophy – ”Who No Know Go Know”.
This year’s Felabration was taken beyond music level as it featured a symposium with the theme: ”Amalgamation of people of the Niger Area”. The event (symposium) was moderated by the former Minister of Education and Convener of #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Dr. Oby Ezekwezili.
The long list of the music stars represented all the genres, ranging from Hip hop, Afrobeat, High life, Reggae and others. The list included but not limited to Wiz kid, Patoranking, Dammy Krane, May 7, Daddy Showkey, Buckwyla, Timaya,Burna Boy, Weird MC, Dr Sid and Idris Abdulkreem.
Over the years, prominent artistes such as late Lucky Dube, Awilo, Daddy showkey, Baba Maal, King Sunny Ade, Lagbaja, Asa, Tuface idibia and host of other musical greats have been part of the annual remembrance musical show. The show features annually not less than 100 local and international music stars since its inception.
Other activities that featured in this years edition included (‘The Fela Debate”) – convention and discussion series, the secondary school debate for schools in Lagos state, dance troops, photo exhibitions, the Fela street carnival parade with musical floats and costume dancers.
Legendary Fela Anikulapo – Kuti was blessed with children who have cut niche for themselves in the music industry. Among them are Yeni – the eldest child, a successful dancer; Femi, the eldest son and Seun both successful Afrobeat mastereos.
