Fashola Promises To Slash Hike LASU Tuition Fees
education, News Thursday, August 7th, 2014After months of brushes between the Lagos state government and Students Union Government of the state’s University (LASU), Governor Babatunde Fashola has just promised the hike tuition fees will soon be reversed.
Fashola who through a special committee on the new fees recently announced yet another controversial tuition made the pledged in his address at the institution’s convocation which is still underway, at its Ojo permanent campus.
The current fee of N76,750 and N158, 250 for undergraduates in the faculties of Arts, Sciences and Medicines respectively announced by the state government were rejected by Nuredeen Yusuf-led Students’ Union Government. Yusuf’s cabinet instead is pushing for the agreed N46,500 across the border tuition fee.
The protest took the students to different parts of the state and the grand was held in front of the State Government house, Alausa Ikeja. The protesting students then stayed back for almost 24 hours, expressing their opposition and vowed not to leave until the new fee which they lamented was not affordable by their parents was slashed accordingly.
