FIFA U-20 Women World Cup: Falconets Force Mexico to Draw
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, Sports News Thursday, August 7th, 2014The Falconets of Nigeria Wednesday held their Mexican counterparts to a 1-1 draw in their opening group game at the 2014 Fifa U20 Women World Cup in Moncton, Canada.
The Falconets dominated play in the early stage of the game but, Mexico took the lead against the run of play through through Fabiola Ibara, who capitalized on an error in the Nigerian defence in the 23rd minute.
Nigeria fought back and cancelled the goal just before the end of the first half through Inneh Osarenoma Igbinovia.
Earlier in the same group, England and Korea Republic had also settled for a 1-1 draw.
With these result, every team in the group now have a point each.
Nigeria will hope to record their first victory at this year’s tournament when they meet Korea Republic in their second game on Saturday to increase their chances of making it through to the next round, while Mexico and England also fight for maximum points to keep their hopes alive earlier same day.
