Experts Encourage Regular Check On Hearts For Stable Health

Members of the public have been urged to keep regular checks on their hearts for good health, just as members of Plateau state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have benefited from free blood pressure and body mass index tests.
The exercise which was put together by the state Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA), NUJ in conjunction with the Cardiac society was organized to mark this year’s International Heart Day.
NMA Chairman, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda expressed delight over the exercise which he stressed was very crucial to journalists who were always busy and hardly have time to check their health status.
He regretted that many useful lives have been lost to heart related problems therefore, advised a departure from such carelessness, through regular heart checks.
Earlier, the state NUJ Chairman, Yakubu Taddy expressed delight on the gesture as well as willingness of the union to partner with the NMA so as to uplift the health status of its members.
In a related development, the heart specialists organized lecture to mark the day. The Speaker, Dr. Madaki Abo of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, (JUTH) said regular trek was a viable means to a stable heart.
Speaking further on the lecture with the theme: “Creating Heart-Healthy Environments”, Dr. Abo indicated the focus of the discourse was apt, considering the ignorance level relating to the causes of the disease, which he warned did not give alert when it would strike.
Another Speaker at the lecture, Professor Solomon Dan Bauchi advised members of the public to always know the history of their parents, especially those who are hypertensive, adding that, doing so, could help them manage their heart problems.
