Exclusive Story – Anyim Moves To Impeach Ebonyi Governor As State Assembly Gathers Signatures
Featured, Latest Headlines, Nigeria 2015 Election Thursday, January 8th, 2015By IGNATIUS OKPARA – There are strong indications that the Ebonyi state House of Assembly may soon commence impeachment move on Governor Martin Elechi over alleged financial misconduct and anti party activities.
African Examiner reliably gathered from a source close to the state legislators that plans have reached advance stage for the collection of names of members that are disposed to the plot.
The source said the move is a fall out of the ongoing cold war between governor Elechi and the secretary to the government of the federation, (SGF) Anyim Pius Anyim who was said to be the arrow head of the governors impeachment plot.
Among other Governor Elechi’s arch political enemies, according to the source, are his deputy, Engineer Dave Umeahi, and immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Sam Egwu.
The ongoing crisis, has swallowed the governor’s political structure in the state, a development that made it impossible for him to deliver his anointed gubernatorial aspirant and ex- minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu during the last PDP governorship primaries.
Apart from failing to deliver all his preferred aspirants during the PDP primaries, Governor Elechi, who was nursing a senatorial ambition earlier, could not also deliver him self.
“It will take a miracle for Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state, to complete his tenure” the source told our correspondent on Thursday.
“I want to tell you that If political development in the state is anything to go by, you will agree with me that the governor is finished politically”
“You saw how his candidate for the PDP governorship ticket, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu was disgraced, and the governor himself embarrassed during the primaries.”
However, investigation by our correspondent revealed that majority of the state lawmakers loyal to Pius Anyim are equally accusing the governor of anti party activities.
They alleged that since the governor lost the PDP structure in the state during the party primaries, he has been funding the Labour party (LP) as an alternative for his supporters who recently defected to it enmass.
It would be recalled that only few days ago, the state House of Assembly had via a resolution dissolved the 13 local government caretaker committees and boards of the state agencies.
