EXCLUSIVE: Former Enugu Senator, Gilbert Nnaji Moves To Decamp To APC

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Barely 48 hours after a former member of the National Assembly (NASS), from Enugu state, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, dumped the People’s Democratic Party PDP for the All Progressive Congress APC, an ex-Senator Gilbert Nnaji, from the state is set to also cross over to the ruling party.

A reliable source close to Nnaji, who is the immediate past Senator that represented Enugu East Senatorial district in the upper Chamber of the Nigeria’s National Assembly confided in African Examiner in Enugu that the former lawmaker had concluded every arrangement to pitch political tent with the ruling APC.

Recall that the Ex-enugu state born politician had served two terms of eight years in the Federal House of representatives under the platform of the peoples Democratic party PDP, before moving to the Senate where he equally did same two terms, but was sent packing in 2019 general election by a former governor of Enugu state, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, who is currently the incumbent Senator representing the district.

The source disclosed that Nnaji, who has been making serious consultations before eventually making up his mind, is defecting to APC with a huge number of his supporters across all the local government areas that make up the senatorial zone.

Before proceeding to the NASS, he had equally served as the Enugu East local government chairman.

It was gathered that the Enugu state APC membership revalidating/ Committed led by Senator Jonathan Zwingina, will soon meet with Nnaji for his official registration for the party.

Our Correspondent gathered that other top ex-PDP Stalwarts in Enugu state that have defected to APC in the last two years, includes, former president of Nigeria Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani, immediate past governor of the state, Barr. Sullivan Chime, it’s gubernatorial Candidate in the 2919 general pools, Senator Ayogu Eze, Former military governor of Gombe state, Group Captain Joe Orji, former Speaker of the state House of Assembly Barr. Eugene Odoh, amongst others.

Efforts by African Examiner to speak with the Enugu state Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC , Dr. Ben Nwoye, and the state publicity Secretary, Mrs Kate Offor, on the Nnaji’s move was unsuccessful, as their mobile lines could not go through as at the time of filing this report.
