Enugu Police Nabs Killer of 80-year-Old Kidnap Victim

ENUGU , NIGERIA, (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Enugu state police Command has confirmed the arrest of leader of a kidnap syndicate that recently abducted, kill, and buried an over 80 years old woman in Enugu community,after collecting 5million ransom from the family members.
Ebere Amaraizu, the state police public Relations officer, PPRO, who disclosed this to newsmen monday in Enugu, said the woman’s body has been recovered from where it was buried in the bush by the hoodlums for a befitting burial rites.

The Command’s spokesman, added that the suspect and one other yet to be named, were apprehended by the Anti- Kidnapping Squad of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, DCII.

He said efforts were on to nab other members of the notorious gang.

According to Amarizu, the syndicate was arrested on Saturday  by the police in the state “for allegedly abducting a woman in the Ezeagu area of the state.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded a ransom of 20milllion naira from the family of the octogenarian woman, believed to be in her late 80’s.

However, after much dialogue with the family, they were said to have negotiated and agreed to pay 5million naira which was reportedly paid by the family.

But trouble however, began when the family kept waiting on the kidnappers to inform them on where to pick up the victim.

It was gathered that After much waiting, the kidnappers didn’t respond so the family members, hence they were said to have reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Levinus Ude.

Confessing to the crime, Ude, who claimed to be an indigene of Omesi-Umumba ndi agu Ezeagu council Area of the state, said the woman died of cold and they buried her in the bush in a 6ft grave and as such, could not contact the family.

The suspect, disclosed that one Obiora Chiji from Umuene in Umena ndi Agu is also a member of his gang.
