Enugu LP Guber Candidate Edeoga Raises Alarm Over Alleged Violence By PDP Thugs
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, News Across Nigeria Saturday, March 18th, 2023(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The labour Party LP Gubernatorial flag bearer in Enugu State, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga has raised the alarm over the disruption of voting processes in some polling units in the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State.
He hinted that one supporter of his party in Uzo- Uwani local government area of the state has been shot by armed political thugs working for the ruling People Democratic Party PDP.
Speaking with Newsmen shortly after casting his vote at his Eha-Amufu polling 006 unit Omulor ward, Edoga said there was a localised disruption of the voting process in some local government areas.
The Governorship hopeful, however, revealed that more than 30 armed thugs were arrested in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, noting that the security agencies have been alive to their responsibilities.
The LP candidate listed the most affected Council areas to include Enugu East, Enugu South, Enugu North, Uzo-Uwani and Nsukka.
According to him, “information we have received from across the state is that thugs, rogue police are attacking people, disrupting the voting process. Some of them are wearing fake military uniforms.
“These matters have escalated; we have done what we are supposed to do, to inform the authorities.
He added that “these reports have come from Enugu East, Enugu South, Enugu North, Uzo-Uwani and Nsukka local government areas.
“Council chairmen are using thugs to disrupt the voting process. In several places, they are also inducing and intimidating voters.
“In Uzo-Uwani, armed men are going from community to community. One of our supporters, Pius Agaba was shot, he is in the hospital right now.
“However, the disruption is not statewide; it is localized” he stated.
“In Nsukka LG, apart from the case in Lejja, other attacks were nipped in the bud. A combined team of security operatives arrested a number of armed thugs this morning at a popular hotel from where they would have launched attacks on polling units.”
The LP Governorship Candidate lauded both the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for their commitment towards a peaceful poll.
“INEC is trying but its commitment is being undermined by state actors who are hellbent on sabotaging the process.
“But we hope that at the end of the day, Enugu people will get the change they yearned for
“Most people are coming just with a mindset to loot the state, but by the grace of God, the will of the people will prevail,” he enthused.
Meanwhile, over 140 political thugs were said to have been arrested by security operatives in Nsukka earlier in the day.
But the Nsukka local government area Chairman, Walter Ozioko, when contacted for his reaction, denied knowledge of such arrest in his locality.
