Over 200 indigent students have benefited from scholarships by the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loan Board.
Disclosing this while addressing the beneficiaries Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs Loy Nnacheta, which was established by the present administration in the state, disclosed the recipients included seven medical doctors currently doing their internship at the University Teaching Hospital Enugu.
She further informed that the board has released the 2012/2013 Scholarship to 35 students from various groups within Enugu State and beyond. The Executive Secretary hailed the Governor for the kind gesture towards the students irrespective of their place of origin in the programme
She explained that the scheme was initiated by the Governor to encourage youths to strive for excellence in their course of studies, professional career as well as embrace good character.
Mrs Nnacheta, however, urged the beneficiaries to live up to expectation so as to guard against the good intention of the gesture being defeated.
Two of the students, Franklin Eluagu and Igwe Ginika who spoke to newsmen, expressed gratitude to Governor Sullivan Chime for carrying the youths along in his transformation agenda. They promised to contribute their quota to his administration through campaign against child abuse and other vices common among the youths.
