Enugu Assembly Elects Ex-Governor Chime Ally, Ubosi As New Speaker
Ignatius Okpara, Latest Headlines, News, Politics Monday, June 8th, 2015From Ignatius Okpara, Enugu – A Member representing Enugu East urban constituency and strong ally of Governor Sullivan Chime, Hon. Edward Ubosi, has emerged the new Speaker of the 6th session of the Enugu State House of Assembly.
Ubochi, a 2nd term member of the House, was among the pro-immediate past Governor Sullivan Chime (G- 9) that scuttled the failed impeachment of the former Governor.
In his acceptance speech, Ubosi, called for understanding and prayers from his colleagues and residents of the state to enable them move the state forward.
He promised to work with the fear of God, as well as ensure peace, unity and Progress in the House.
His words: “I am just a servant and would run an open door policy, I would also like everybody to put hands together so that we work with harmony, orderliness to make policies that would enhance development of the state.”
Similarly, Hon. Don Uzogbado, representing Oji-River state constituency, was elected the Deputy Speaker.
The new speaker was nominated via a motion by the former leader of the House, Hon. Sunday Udeokoye, representing Awgu North constituency.
Udeokoye, while moving the motion, described Ubosi, as the most qualified, having held many sensitive positions in the state and also a ranking member of the house.
The motion, was unanimously adopted by the 24- man House.
