Enugu APC Vows To Resist Ekweremadu From Grabbing Guber Ticket Through Back Door

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Enugu state Chapter of the All progressive Congress APC has vowed to resist alleged clandestine moves by Former Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu to grab the party’s Governorship ticket through the back door.

It said it’s unfortunate that Ekweremadu, who recently withdrew from the just concluded Peoples Democratic PDP gubernatorial primary in the State is making attempts to subvert the electoral act, which he was part and parcel to put in place by mounting pressure on the national leadership of APC to dump it’s flag bearer in the State, Chief Uche Nnaji and hand over the ticket to him.

African Examiner reports that Nnaji, a business man, had emerged the Enugu state Governorship Candidate of the APC during its primary election recently conducted at the party’s South East Zonal office in Enugu.

Addressing newsmen Sunday in Enugu, State Chairman of the party, Barrister Ugochukwu Agballa, said APC under his watch in the state would to do everything within its power to ensure that Ekweremadu does not succeed in such act, which he described as ‘evil’

Agballa said the Senator, who represents Enugu East Senatorial district has been wooing the national leadership of the APC to hand him over the Enugu Governorship ticket.

He said that he held conversations with Ekweremadu to come and join its fold “just like other of my friends in PDP. But he asked for the guber ticket, which according to him, is not possible

The Chairman expressed surprised that even after the primary, the former Speaker of ECOWAS is still making such request . adding that “his demand is repugnant to natural justice. It’s Ignoble. It’s evil and we shall resist it.

“He is in court claiming he was subverted in the PDP and now running up and down asking to contravene the electoral act which he is in the forefront of framing.

According to Agballa, “he is putting pressure on the national Chairman, insisting that such pressure can never yield any positive result, because he is not a member of

“Nobody can give him a waiver to subvert what we have done. “We cannot give him our Governorship ticket., I see him as one of the heroes of the electoral act.

“The Governorship position is not even zoned to his zone. In the party he was a leader. Now he wants to subvert our system. What kind of a man is Ekweremadu? Who is Ekweremadu” Agballa asked

“I will not allow hawks to destroy what we have done. Stressing that he was surprised that Ekweremadu who claimed to be a democrat is mounting pressure on the party’s leadership to subvert justice

“We can’t give him our Governorship ticket because we already have a Candidate in the person of Chief Uche Nnaji who was duly and Democratically elected by the party delegates during our Governorship primary election held here at the South East Zonal office” Agballa declared.

He can be our member, but not our Governorship” Candidate he maintained. Ekweremadu has been in government for 24 years, he should support others for once.

Agballa said APC under his watch is determined to bring to an end the monopoly the PDP has been enjoying regarding cornering of all political offices since 1999 til date.
