As the 2015 general polls gathers momentum, the All progressive Congress APC has vowed to send the ruling peoples Democratic party PDP parking from the Enugu state government house, via the ballot box.
To this end, the opposition party said it has begun aggressive sensitization of the state electorate on the need to embrace APC “because it is the alternative party meant for democrats and progressive minds.
Speaking to newsmen Saturday at the end of the Enugu state APC congress newly elected state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said “APC is determined in effecting that change the poor Nigerian masses have been yearning for come 2015.”
According to him, “that change is going to start from Enugu state, because the ruling peoples Democratic party PDP has failed Nigerians woefully in all ramifications, especially Enugu state people.
“I want to say that the change Nigerians and Enugu state people have been yearning for is near, and it will come in 2015” he declared.
Nwoye, a US trained Aviation expert, posited that not until the PDP is shown the exit doors at all levels of governance, Nigeria, will continue to experience instability in all sectors of the nation’s economy.
He, therefore, urged all true democrats and believers of democracy in Enugu state and elsewhere, to take the bull by the horn by embracing APC, maintaining that the opposition party has the capacity and all it takes to rewrite the history of Nigeria.
“We are calling on our people to rise up and embrace the APC because it remains the last hope of the common man in Enugu state, and Nigerian in general” adding that the party is also the voice of the voiceless such as of Okada riders, Keke Napep riders, market women, including all those who have suffered all forms injustices occasioned by the PDP bad governance”
In his remarks at the event, held at the Enugu state APC secretariat, chairman of the congress committee, and former member, House of Representatives from in state, Hon. Uche Onyegucha, had explained that the essence of the merger of other major political parties to form APC was to have a strong force to be used in capturing power from PDP in 2015.
He also used the forum to correct the wrong notion in some quarters that APC is a muslim party, saying such mischievous propaganda is the handiwork of PDP which is not happy with the aggressive conversion of its members to the opposition party in parts of Nigeria.
The ex-National Assembly (NASS) member, who announced the returning of all the state APC officials unopposed via a voice vote, explained that they were elected in line with the party’s electoral guidelines.
He had equally used the forum to dismiss speculation in some PDP quarters that the party is proposing to field a Muslim presidential/ vice presidential candidates in 2015.
Onyegucha, alleged that such rumours are being peddled by the PDP with a view to discouraging unsuspected millions of people willing to embrace the party.
He however, urged Nigerian electorate to ignore such unfounded fallacy, saying there is no way the party could engage in such a thing, because APC, according to him, remains a discipline party, which cannot take any decision that would undermine any religion.
The APC congress, was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, led by the Enugu state Resident electoral commissioner, (REC), Mr. Lawrence Azubuike.
