Ekweremadu Warns Federal Government Against  Marginalization, Provocation Of Igbos

By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu

Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has warned the Federal government against further alleged marginalization,  disrespect and provocation of the Igbo nation.

He said henceforth, the Igbos will no longer tolerate any form of provocation by the president Mohammadu Buhari led federal  government, insisting that the south east zone deserves respect and due recognition as a people in Nigerian government.

Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West senatorial district at the National Assembly, NAS, made the inciting statement sunday at his Enugu residence, when he received a delegation of Ezzeagu chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders.

The group were led by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the local government, Chukwudi Ezinwa.

The ex- Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament, stated that the Igbo would resist further attempts to disrespect or marginalise them in the governance of Nigeria.

His words: “As Ndigbo ,we are going through trying periods; we are being provoked everyday by the government of the country”

He maintained that the way the Buhari administration has been treating “our people especially the marginalisation going on at the level of the Federal government is provocative.

“We are all aware of the contributions of the Igbo to the growth and development of this country.

“We have done so much for this country, and we deserve some amount of respect; and until we get our respect, Nigeria will not be the same.

“So, any person who thinks the Igbo will be relegated, is joking; we believe in equity and justice.

“We will never accept a situation where Igbo or any other tribe for that matter is excluded in the governance of this country, Nigeria belongs to all of us.” he declared.

He however, promised to ensure that every community in Ezzeagu council which is part of his senatorial district, gets potable  water in the next four years.

He also announced that he had delivered some transformers to the locality, and challenged the council administration to put the transformers to use.

“What we are doing is to put Enugu West on the part of irreversible development; to showcase our senatorial zone to show that government can work; that representation can be qualitative,”.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Ezinwa, had hailed the 4th time senator for his outstanding representation of the Enugu West in the NASS, urging him not to relent in providing democracy dividends to the people.

He decried the state of some federal roads in Ezeagu and urged the deputy Senate president to do his best in ensuring that the roads get desired attention from the central government.
