Ekiti Guber Election; Police Beef Up security, Announce Restriction of Movement and Close Borders
Latest Headlines, News, News From The State, Politics Thursday, June 19th, 2014In a bid to beef up security ahead, during and after the coming state gubernatorial election this weekend, The Nigeria Police has announced restriction of movement in Ekiti State from 6pm to 6am from Thursday to Sunday.
Similarly, all borders in and around the state have been closed down until after the exercise which has been embroiled in heated controversy, accusations and counter accusations by members of the two major political parties in the race – the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Penultimate Friday, three Governors Rotimi Amechi (Rivers); Adams Oshiomole (Edo) and Rabiu Kwakwaso (Kano) of the ruling APC were barred by the security operatives (acting on orders from the above), at different points across the country from traveling and gaining entrance into Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital for the grand rally of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro has been accused by APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun of being caught with ballot papers in the state. In a swift reaction, Obanikoro was quoted as saying he owed neither Oyegun nor his party any explanation for any action he takes in the state as the election lasts this weekend.
