Ekiti Guber Election: Observers, Journalists Harassed in Oye Council Area, Electoral Ad-Hoc Workers Wait Endlessly for INEC Officials
Latest Headlines, News, Politics Saturday, June 21st, 2014The Ekiti gubernatorial election which is ongoing started with series of confusion and intrigues this morning. African Examiner learnt that Military men stormed the hotels of some accredited civil rights observers posted to Oye Local government area, early this morning, searched and ransacked their apartments, looking for unidentified items.
Similarly, journalists entering the local government were being harassed, searched, their camera collected, with memory cards in them removed, before being allowed access into the council area.
Ironically, as at 10am, there were scores of corps members (ad-hoc workers) seated at the headquarters of Oye Conucil without any INEC official attending to them or giving instruction of what to do or where to go. The council is the homestead of the incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Meanwhile, the governor was seen around 10 am at his polling unit for accreditation. The exercise is to last 12 noon while the election proper commences right after.
