Edo PDP Suffers Another Set Back, Its 2012 Guber Candidate, Others Decamp To APC
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, Nigeria 2015 Election Monday, April 6th, 2015FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Benin- City – The Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suffered another set back, as its candidate in the July 2012 gubernatorial election, Major-General Charles Airhiavbere, (rtd) and others have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
African Examiner recalled that last month, scores of PDP chieftains and their supporters in the state also dumped the opposition party for the APC.
Airhiavbere, defected to APC on Sunday afternoon at Garrick Memorial School in Benin City during a political event.
He moved to the ruling party along with his wife, Mrs. Yetunde Airhiavbere, National President of Grass roots Initiative (GYI) and 2015 Senatorial Aspirant of PDP, Mr. Richard Lamai.
However, the development has set the leadership of PDP in the state on edge ahead of next Saturday’s April 11th 2015 gubernatorial/state House of Assembly polls scheduled across Nigeria .
In his remarks at the ceremony, the retired General, told his supporters that his decision to join the team of change in Nigeria followed the emergence of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rted) on March 28th Presidential/National Assembly General elections.
He said “I know for sure that with APC at the national and the state, there will be rapid development and all the campaign promises would be delivered to our dear state that is yearning for rapid development.’’
Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who received the decampees assured them of equal opportunities which the president elect would usher-in, saying their decision was a wise one.
