Hard time now awaits anybody in Imo state that addresses anyone who dresses in northern attires as member of Boko Haram, as the state Police Command has threatened to deal with such individual.
A statement issued on Friday in Owerri by the state police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Andrew Enwerem, stated that the sect members are not identified by their mode of dressing or the language they speak.
The command therefore, urged people of the state to maintain harmonious relationship with people of other ethnic groups, rather than engage in name-calling.
The statement further charged the media to also help in sensitising members of the public on the issue.
African Examiner reports that Northern leaders in the state had earlier expressed worries over the fact that everybody from their region were now tagged Boko Haram.
Vice Chairman Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Alhaji Muhamad Abubakar Tola, said it is unfair for people to tag every northerner, Boko Haram.
He recalled that recently, some Hausas who went to a viewing center to watch a World Cup match, were sent out, appealing to the law enforcement agencies and the state government to come to their aide.
