Defiant PDP Faction Cancels National Convention, Extends Makarfi’s Tenure
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Wednesday, August 17th, 2016PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The controversial opposition PDP National Convention slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State Wednesday has been cancelled and postponed.
The development was due to occupation by the security operatives of Samson Siasia venue of the convention.
The Convention has been trailed with endless controversy due to conflicting court rulings by Federal High Courts sitting both in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Following the postponement, the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee and Board of Trustees, agreed that the convention should be shifted for 12 months. Similarly, the two bodies which constitute National Executive Committee (NEC) agreed that the tenure of the factional Caretaker Committee should be extended so as to engage Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff faction for a lasting solution.
It would be recalled that Justice Okon Abang of Federal Court in Abuja ordered Monday and Tuesday that the Convention should not hold, while a resentment ruling from the same court in Port Harcourt ruled otherwise.
