BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Contrary to report of amnesty credited to it, the Nigerian Defence Headquaters (DHQ) has faulted media reports that it has granted amnesty to 800 Boko Haram terrorists.
DHQ in a statement issued Tuesday decleared that the story has no “iota of truth in it” as it has never mentioned Amnesty”.
The Military stated that in line with the United Nations convention Charter, which Nigeria is a signatory, it came up with an initiative – “Öperation Safe Corridor”, geared towards rehabilitating and reintegrating the repentant terrorists back into normal life in the society.
Consequently, Defence urged the public to disregard the insinuation, warning that the initiative – “Operation Safe Corridor” should not be mistaken for amnesty.
DHQ also maintained that its position that no act of Terrorism or Criminality would be condoned in our nation by any group remained, therefore, the public should be on guard.
