Daniel Sturridge Marks Liverpool Return By Scoring
Latest Headlines, News, Sports News Sunday, February 1st, 2015Daniel Sturridge returned from a lengthy injury layoff with a goal as Liverpool bounced back from their energy-sapping League Cup loss at Stamford Bridge in midweek with a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham United at Anfield.
It was another impressive performance by Brendan Rodgers’ men as they dominated for long periods and continued their recent defensive improvement with another clean sheet. Not only are Liverpool not conceding many goals of late, they’re rarely even allowing opponents a shot on goal (West Ham only had two shots on target on Saturday).
Forward Raheem Sterling opened the scoring from a delightful pass by the impressive midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who also produced the pass from which Sturridge marked his comeback with a trademark deadly finish and celebratory dance.
The win sees Liverpool leapfrog the Hammers in the Premier League table and maintain their good run of form since losing to Manchester United in middle of December.
