Cult Member Stabs Rival To Death At Beer Parlour In Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Ebonyi state police command has confirmed a deadly rival cult clash in the state which claimed the life of one Christopher Egwu, in a beer parlour and left dozens critically injured.

George Okafor, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, who confirmed the incident, on monday, said the clash happened last weekend.

According to him, the clash was between two cult groups, Black Axe and Eiiye confraternities.

The deceased, was stabbed to death by one Chukwuemeka Oko at Omakaejali drinking joint in Afikpo North council Area of the state after a heated argument.

He disclosed that the suspect, who hails from Amamgballa community, has been arrested, warning youths of the state to desist from cult related activities as anyone found in such act would be dealt seriously with.

Okafor, reiterated the readiness of the state police command to curb cultism in the area.

Efforts he added were on by the police to apprehend all the suspects involved in the incident.

AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that trouble started when Oko, confronted the late Egwu at the drinking joint and ordered him to leave the joint or have himself to blame for allegedly challenging his group; but deceased, was said to have ignored Oko, but rather, warned him to be mindful of his word.

The suspect, in anger broke a bottle of beer he was drinking and stabbed Egwu in the stomach, and the victim was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, where he was confirmed dead by Doctor.

Our Correspondent learnt that shortly after the death of the deceased filtered into the ears of his members, they went on a reprisal attack during which they injured three members of the suspect’s group and flew.
