Court Refuses Suit Seeking Tambuwal’s Removal As Speaker
Featured, Latest Headlines Monday, December 15th, 2014Ganiyu Ganiyu Nasirudeen, Abuja – House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal’s battle with his former political party – the PDP, recorded another victory Monday, as a Federal High Court in FCT, Abuja refused an application, restraining him from parading himself as the Speaker.
The suit which was filed by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, representing, Ipokia South Federal Constituency of Ogun, South Western Nigeria is seeking interpretation, regarding lack of division pronouncement, in the ruling PDP, as ruled previously, by Justice Evoh Chukwu.
The Federal Lawmaker is also praying the court to rule that Tambuwal’s defection ran contrary to Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In his ruling, the new jurist, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, held instead of restraining Hon Tambuwal, he and other defendants be put on notice.
It would be recalled Justice Evoh Chukwu, was initially assigned hearing of the suit, but Tambuwal sought transfer to another judge; the prayer was granted.
Joined in the suit are the House of Representatives, Tambuwal and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
